PRESS RELEASE – Trois-Rivières, November 28, 2024– As a result of meticulous work carried out with the support and collaboration of stakeholders in its ecosystem, the Vallée de la Transition Énergétique (VTE) unveiled the broad outlines of its 2024-2028 Strategic Plan at a press conference held today. This strategic plan aims to mobilize collective strength to develop and promote Quebec’s expertise and innovations in energy transition.
The VTE addresses four major issues to achieve energy transition in Quebec:
- Cohesion, acceptability, and stakeholder participation;
- The development of a world-class integrated offering to attract talent and stimulate innovation and its promotion;
- Visibility and recognition in Quebec and internationally
- Availability of resources to achieve our ambitions and ensure long-term funding.
The strategic directions presented to address these issues consist of networking between the business world and the world of knowledge, attracting talent, promoting entrepreneurship, social innovation, and developing dynamic and attractive living environments.
The energy transition is a crucial challenge for Quebec society. With its strategic plan, the VTE aims to contribute significantly to Quebec’s economic, social, and sustainable development in order to create an ecosystem where innovative ideas can flourish. The VTE will deploy innovation centers bringing together partners from the institutional, academic, and industrial sectors. These infrastructures will drive innovation, research, experimentation, and business development by providing access to cutting-edge technological equipment, services, and customized workspaces.
“The VTE wants to accelerate the energy transition by mobilizing stakeholders and promoting innovative solutions and Quebec expertise. Our strategic plan illustrates our positioning and our ambition to create an ecosystem of innovation and wealth creation with the goal of contributing positively to Quebec’s decarbonization.” said Alain Lemieux, Executive Director of the VTE.
A first project to address challenges in the living environment
The VTE team will also present its very first project focused on the living environment. The pilot project represents the VTE innovation zone’s first concrete initiative in terms of social innovation. This project uses a digital platform that employs advanced 3D modeling technologies and virtual twins to address the crucial issues of mobility, housing, and talent attraction in the Bécancour region.
Developed by Dassault Systèmes, an international science and technology company, the 3DEXPERIENCE platform will enable the mapping of industrial development related to the battery sector in Bécancour in order to provide a better understanding of the impacts on the living environment and propose practical and sustainable solutions. Ultimately, the VTE hopes to continue this project in Shawinigan and Trois-Rivières to encourage land development and planning that is conducive to the energy transition. This pilot project aims to create a sustainable framework that will benefit future generations.
“This pilot project fits perfectly with our vision of human and sustainable development. By leveraging the data collected, we will be able to adjust our actions to provide concrete solutions tailored to current issues, particularly in terms of mobility and quality of life. This innovative and environmentally friendly technological solution will benefit the entire Bécancour community. We are delighted to be working with the Vallée de la Transition Énergétique to bring this promising initiative to fruition.” said Lucie Allard, Mayor of Bécancour.
